Build: thin body, thick plates across the belly, most commonly a darker color of the main body, though not always.

Pelt: usual snakeskin, very soft to the touch, somewhat shiny; patterns can be anything found in nature, from reptiles, to mammals, to birds.
Pygmies are often brighter and more vibrant patterns and colors, while the wilder, larger cousins are more muted.

Head: square with a blunt nose and upturned mouth. Eyebrows come to a faint point

Eyes: small, slitted; any color

Tail: long and thin, rather snappy
Fins: very large fins, thick membrane; the fingertips have a hollow 'paddle' that produces the ominous rattle that the xalik are known for. These hollow bubbles are always the same color as the eyes

General Personality: very aggressive and very dangerous. Bite is highly toxic unless its a pygmy xalik, who don't have venom sacs.

Breeding:

Xalik are born fully self-sufficient, enabling them to survive on their own immediately.
Society: Solitary by nature, xalik only come together to mate, abandoning the eggs as soon as they're clutched. As a result, many do not survive, but a single xalik can clutch up to twice a year.
